Master's in Public Health

Introduction

MPH is an intensive two-year course designed to provide a grounding in Public Health to strengthen each learner’s knowledge and skills, contributing to the development of a cadre of public health professionals. It has been designed with an inherent recognition that individuals admitted to this program have prior and current experience in the health sector. The program is divided into classroom-based coursework and field-based practical experience in Public Health. This course is a professional course, approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and affiliated to Maharashtra University of health Sciences (MUHS) Nashik. It is appropriate for those who want to pursue a career in the area of Public Health. The course is designed based on the latest international evidence and standards in Public Health.

Objectives

The course will help candidate to develop skills in the following areas:

Eligibility Criteria

All Health Science Graduates i.e. (MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BHMS/BUMS/BPTh/BPO/BOTh/ BASLP/PBBSc (Nursing) / B. Sc. Nursing), B.Sc. (Paramedical Technology) OR Health Science Degree of any Statutory University.

(Note:1) Those Students who are doing internships are eligible for entrance examination, but they have to submit an Internship Completion Certificate along with other documents at the time of admission.

(Note:2) In-service candidates (Govt. / Private) fulfilling the above criteria have to submit the NOC of the concerned authority at the time of admission.

Internship

  • Two months’ internship at governmental or non-governmental public health organizations or program management units.
  • At the end of internship, candidates will submit a brief summary of public health program/challenge dealt with and solution proposed/ implemented by the candidate.
  • It will carry 2 credits.

Dissertation

  • It will carry 10 credits
  • Candidates will submit their project plan for dissertation at the end of internship.
  • At the end of fourth semester, candidates will submit their dissertation for assessment.
  • Dissertation will be evaluated by an internal examiner (60% weightage) and an external examiner (40% weightage) including a viva-voce.

General Evaluation

  • Theory and Practical exam at end of semester 1, 2, and 3.
  • Theory, Practical exam and Dissertation at end of semester 4.
  • Acceptance of dissertation by at least three examiners (two external and one internal) appointed by the University.
  • Examination: consist of 4 theory papers of 100 marks each for 3 hours.

Total: 1000 Marks- 1. Theory: 400 Marks, 2. Practical: 400 Marks, 3. Oral: 200 Marks Theory, practical and oral exams to be passed separately.
