Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program (Intermediate FETP)

The Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program (Intermediate FETP) is a specialized training initiative designed to enhance the competencies of public health professionals in essential field epidemiology practices. It bridges the gap between basic epidemiological training and advanced epidemiological skills, preparing participants to effectively manage public health threats and improve surveillance systems.

Objectives

The objectives of the Intermediate FETP are to:

• Enhance Epidemiological Skills: Provide participants with intermediate-level skills in epidemiology, including data analysis, disease surveillance, and outbreak investigation.
• Improve Public Health Response: Strengthen the ability of public health professionals to respond effectively to health emergencies and outbreaks.
• Support Public Health Systems: Contribute to the development and improvement of public health systems and surveillance networks.
• Promote Evidence-Based Practice: Encourage the use of epidemiological data to inform public health decisions and policies.

Mentor Support

• Mentor Ratio: Typically, the program maintains a mentor-to-trainee ratio of 1:3 to ensure adequate guidance and support.
• Mentorship: Experienced epidemiologists and public health professionals serve as mentors, providing both technical assistance and guidance.

Duration

• The duration of the Intermediate FETP is generally 12 months.This period includes both classroom-based instruction and fieldwork.

Curriculum and Training Components

The curriculum of the Intermediate FETP includes:

• Classroom Instruction: Training modules on epidemiological methods, public health surveillance, outbreak investigation, biostatistics, and data management.
• Fieldwork: Practical assignments where participants apply their skills in real-world public health settings, such as conducting outbreak investigations and evaluating surveillance systems.
• Workshops and Seminars: Interactive sessions on specialized topics and emerging public health issues.

Eligibility

Candidates for the Intermediate FETP must meet the following criteria:

• Service: Regular/contractual employees of the state health services or equivalent (autonomous bodies or undertakings) permitted by their respective controlling authorities.
• Age limit: up to 50 years
• Essential Qualifications: MBBS/BDS/AYUSH/master's degree in public health with any background from a recognized institution/master's degree with three years of experience
• Affiliation to program/project: Employees of the state health service working at least one year in the communicable disease/ non-communicable disease or related program/public health activities nominated by the department (or) If there are no suitable candidate the Employer/Nominator may identify a suitable candidate for this program by assuring that the candidate will be placed in the program cell during the course duration

No Fees applicable for Intermediate FETP Course for State government sponsored candidate.
