The institute has libraries on both campuses. The NIPHTR Mumbai campus Library was established in 1957 & The NIPHTR New panvel campus Library is located in 2000 sq ft space provided on the first floor of the building. The library is fully air-conditioned. Its location provides for an ideal place for readers to come and collect their thoughts or read or browse on the internet.

The primary mission of both the libraries is to support the educational and research programmes of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated educational and research functions of the institute.

Collections

Library is having collection of 6859 books.

The books are mainly on the following subjects

Epidemiology, Nutrition, Public Health, Occupational Health, Communicable diseases, Sociology, Psychology, Community Organisation, Behavioural Sciences, Statistics, Demography, Population education, Non Communicable diseases, Sex Education, National Health Policies, National Health programmes, Family Welfare, Health Education, Communication, Hindi Books, Admin Books, Manuals, NFHS books, WHO books.

Commitee

The library committee may be defined as the body or persons that deal with library activities. The library committee plays an effective and important role to run the library efficiently. The status of health literature, library and information services cannot be improved unless and until the Library Committee executes its governance. The Library Committee is empowered to make/frame/amend rules and regulations of the library. A committee is a forum comprising of knowledgeable persons who may be assigned particular tasks with matching powers. Generally, such committees are given advisory functions and supervisory powers. It studies the library needs in view of the instructional, research and service programs of the institute and advises the Dean on matters of policy, development of library resources which may be an integration of the library program with other instructional, research and service activities. The Committee liaises with the faculty, staff and students, and the Librarian.

The following are the basic functions of the Library Committee:

  • To guide the Librarian in formulating general library policies and regulations which govern the functions of the library.
  • To provide for proper documentation services and updating the Library collection.
  • To work towards modernization and improvement of Library and Documentation Services.
  • To formulate policies and procedures for efficient use of Library resources.
  • To review Library readership
  • To adopt measures to enhance readership.
  • To prepare budget and proposals for the development of the Library.
  • To recommend to the authorities the fees and other charges for the use of the Library.
  • To seek feedback on Library functions from readers.
  • To take measures to increase the membership of the Library beyond the boundaries of Institute.

The Committee is responsible for policy formulation and oversees its implementation. The Librarian acts as the member secretary of the committee and provides reliable information to the committee which does not interfere in day to day working of the library except through the Librarian. Library Rules
  • No books, periodicals, or other library materials shall be removed from the library premises, without borrowing at the circulation counter.
  • Do not carry issued materials such as books, reprints, journals, and loose magazines, into the library.
  • The reader must not interfere with the comfort of other readers. Do not make excessive noise. Do not cause damage, disfigure, or mutilate to the library property, books, periodicals, and any other library material.
  • Smoking in the library premises is not permitted.
  • Bags, cases, ink-bottles, and pets are not allowed in the library.
  • Persons present in the library at any time must identify themselves to the Library Staff when requested.
  • No broadsheets, handbills, newspapers or other material be distributed or displayed within the library.
  • Mobiles and other electronic alarm devices should be put on a mute mode while in the library.
  • Water bottles are not allowed to put on reading tables and computer tables.
  • Follow the Copyright Act. Do not use Copyright literature for the commercial purposes.
  • Maintain silence in the library
  • When leaving the station for more than a week, return all Books/Journal/Reprints borrowed from the library.
  • Do not share User IDs & Passwords provided by the library for library access.
  • Library Circulation Counter is closed 30 minutes before closing time. Please complete issue/return before 30 minutes of closing time.

The library has maintained the institute website www.niphtr.mohfw.gov.in which provides information about infrastructure and facilities available in the Mumbai and Panvel campuses. The website also facilitates online admission for regular courses as well as skill development courses for students. Online registration of Yellow Fever vaccination passengers including slot booking & payment facility is available.

The e-Granthalaya Library Mobile Application is now available for download on the Google Play Store. All students and staff members of NIPHTR may log in to the application using their registered mobile number.

Key Features of the e-Granthalaya Library App

  • Users can view complete bibliographic details of books available in the library.
  • Users can check their individual transaction history, including:

  • Access to digital library resources is also provided through the application.

Steps to Log In to the e-Granthalaya Application

  • Install the e-Granthalaya mobile application from the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  • Enter the registered mobile number as submitted to the library.
  • Provide/select the following details:
    • Cluster: Government Medical Libraries
    • Name: NIPHTR Library
    • Membership Number: This will be provided to the user on their registered email ID after submission and approval of the Library Membership Application Form.
  • Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
  • Upon successful verification, the user will be logged in to the application.

We are happy to share that National Institute of Public Health and Training Research (NIPHTR) has successfully joined One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) an INFLIBNET initiative; this strategic move will enhance access to a wide range of national and international e-resources.

About One Nation One Subscription (ONOS)

The Prime Minister of India in his address to the Nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on 15th August, 2022, had pointed out the importance of Research and Development in our country in the Amrit Kaal. He had given the clarion call of “Jai Anusandhan” on the occasion.

The Government of India approved One Nation One Subscription scheme to provide country-wide access to international high impact scholarly research articles and journal publications to students, faculty and researchers of all Higher Education Institutions managed by the central government and state governments and Research & Development Institutions of the central government.

From 1st January 2025, ONOS phase-I has been approved for the calendar years 2025, 2026 and 2027. Access to journals is being provided through national subscription coordinated by the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre.

The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is provided for locating library materials available in the library. The OPAC database contains bibliographic records of all publications received and processed by the library.

computer terminals have been made available in the Library Computer Lab for accessing the catalogue. Readers are advised to make use of OPAC for searching library documents.
